Welcome....

Glad you're here. This blog, like the former Mills River Progressive, will focus on current events, primarily in the arenas of politics, economics, and the environment. Yet the focus here will be that which speaks to (and of) the ongoing societal disintegration happening all around us.

Judging from the conversations some of us have been having with each other online, most of us are experiencing that the systems we grew up surrounded by have gone terribly wrong. We feel the chaos, the discord, and the tension, even if unconsciously. And in daily life, it feels like we're surrounded by people who don't have a clue about what's actually going on - and worse, have no interest in finding out. Whatever the MSM is blathering about on any given day is the extent of their information.

That can feel alienating, adding to the undercurrent of tension that's already there. So the point of this space is, in addition to (hopefully) becoming a forum for sharing info and expressing yourself, it will also be a reminder that you have companeros out there. The goal here isn't a huge readership, but an ideal one, for individuals who question everything and don't fit into the mainstream paradigm.

Please follow this blog, so that you'll be emailed whenever a new post comes out. You will not be asked for donations, nor subjected to ads.

  1. I must say I’m honored to be here at the “ribbon cutting”.

While “Wake up and smell the bullshit” is just what we need from average Americans, the corporate media their political elite masters are pushing “Relax and drink some more korporate koolade”.

At Common Dreams, Bill Moyers sounds the warning alarm very clearly.

The Plutocrats Are Winning. Don’t Let Them!

The vast inequality they are creating is a death sentence for government by consent of the people. This is the fight of our lives and how it ends is up to us.

He reveals the horrible corporate and donor class giveaways, and new veil of secrecy, in the latest spending bill signed by Obama.

He concludes with: ”So enjoy the holidays, including Star Wars. Then come back after New Year’s and find a place for yourself, at whatever level, wherever you are, in the struggle for democracy. This is the fight of our lives and how it ends is up to us.”

I hate to be a pessimist, or realist, but I have to say, sorry, Bill. The plutocratic enemies of democracy have already won. Americans have already embraced them as infallible “Job Creators”, entitled to rule by divine right of wealth.

The late great George Carlin put it best. “You don’t have rights. You have owners….This country is finished.”

    1. Thanks for the link and comment, this is a very important piece by Moyers. I wish in were in all the mainstream media.
Sometimes I also have the pessimistic view that we're toast. But none of us should give up quite yet. I have a feeling that people like us might be pivotal in the future.

  2. Let's kick this off with a rather "nice" piece on stupidity. /S
    http://www.wkow.com/story/30817326/2015/12/23/lunchroom-employee-fired-for-feeding-hungry-student
We can give our politicians, many, many Federal employees and even prisoners Roman Vomitoriums full of tax payer provided free meals. But we can't provide nutricious, free lunches for American School kids.
I don't care if they can afford them or not, laws in most states (all?) provide mandatory attendance for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Parents who keep their kids home have been fined and/or jailed.
If school is mandatory, then we should be providing a meal for them since they are required (again, by law) to attend for 6 to 8 hours. Wonder when the last time a Conressional Committee went more than 4 hours without pausing for a gratis, tax payer lunch? But we can't waste tax payer money on "kids" now, can we? Just on politicians and myriad others who not only can afford their own free lunch but graciously allow us, tax payers, to foot their food bills. Write, call or bitch at your politicians to correct this. Have them pay for their own meals out of their own VERY DEEP pockets.

  3. OMG. Seriously?? This reminds me of the 90 y.o. man in FLA arrested for feeding homeless people on the beach.
    Which was bad enough!
But to criminalize someone for feeding a hungry child - what insanity. I have no doubt the bureaucrats involved are convinced of their rightness. They probably go home to a massive dinner and tell themselves what good people they are.

  4. I gotta say Anna, crumblingempire sounds more like a recipe that takes about 16 years to cook!

    Start in 1981

    Take a large melting pot
Grease it real well with bullshit, innuendo and duplicity
    Remove unions
Slowly separate beliefs and abilities while adding dissension
Add a conflict with lies and fraud
    Blend in a small war
    Add more secret, special ingredients
    Stir for 4 years
    Let pot come to boil
Simmer for 8 more years while the pot appears to cook properly
Then change the recipe for 8 years
    Add bitterness, lies and deceit
Add another war while removing hundreds of thousands from the pot
Mix in another war salted with lies to taste
    Increase cost of ingredients
    Remove prosperity
Add more lies, deceit and more special ingredients
Combine with copious amounts of fear and loathing
Cook for 7 more years while stirring in Paranoia, Xenophobia, Racism,Class and Gender hatred
Add more deceit, stagnation and mix in deception
Sprinkle heavily with special expensive tastes (not optional but if you can’t afford them, then do without)
Let cook for 4 to 12 months
    Top with hopelessness
    Done
    Cut and serve to America

  12. Dave, one thing that is very disappointing to me about prominent liberals like Bill Moyers (and Rachel Maddow, and Noam Chomsky -- just to name a few), is his smearing of the 9/11 Truth movement without taking the initiative and time to read all the available evidence (such as presented by David Ray Griffin). The physical evidence, and the testimonial evidence, is right under his nose. It clearly shows that those attacks didn't occur as the official narrative presents it.

  13. Frank,

It is disappointing. I think liberals avoid the issue because they fear that everything they say, will be demonized as babble from the paranoid lunatic fringe. (As if the Right has done anything but that anyway.) Asking too many
questions invites the full wrath of the puppet masters and their media puppets. Empires rule by more than just military and economic power. They need to rule by their propaganda network as well.

One thing Hitler envied about America was how Americans unquestioningly believed
    anything their media told them.

No American wants to believe their country is committing war crimes and acts of terror. No American wants to believe we invade countries after our leaders spread
outright lies in an all-out pre-war propaganda campaign. No American wants to see us as the sole remaining “Empire of Evil”.

Americans have been conditioned to shut up and believe since “Remember the Maine” was used by the empire to capture more territories from Spain. Any questions about the JFK assassination were met with the same dismissal. The official story must never be challenged, no matter how few facts are presented or how many questions remain.

So how dare we ask cui bono from 9-11? We know who really benefitted. We know who had the motive and means. Yes, al-Qaeda had their intentions, but oily American Neocons openly yearned for a “Second Pearl Harbor”. Israelis, not Arabs, were seen celebrating here on 9-11. Americans must never question the
Israeli far Right, lest they be accused of being “Anti-Semitic” and “siding with the terrorists”. You are either with us or against us, after all.

My hunch is all these non-al-Qadea bellicose parties had every intention of capitalizing on the inevitable final attacks on the WTC. They wanted to make preparations for that contingency and assure complete destruction of the targets. And they did. Al-Qaeda may, or may not, have launched the initial attacks, but they most certainly had help in finishing the job.

My big question, besides WTC 7, that never
gets a reasonable answer is, “Why isn’t there any released video footage of the Pentagon strike?”

Must be a reason, but I’m sure we’ll never be told. Yet they dare to smear and accuse the questioner’s patriotism?

    I rest my case.
