It's Worse than we Thought....

This list  is courtesy of Rolling Stone, which actually tried to assemble the vast number of bizarre and ignorant utterances from the repuglican presidential candidates during the past year.

Yep, Tessa Stuart distilled the steaming dung pile into 15 of the most notable, um, offerings...

Post-Holiday Roundup

Well, it didn't feel much like the Solstice-Saturnalia-Christmas-Festivus-Kwanza time of year, did it? Many of us got to bask in warmth that rivaled spring, and even some sun on one or two of the days. Still, as I commented below, it was also somewhat creepy in its anomaly. Normally most people don't have to worry about deadly storms and freakishly long-lasting tornadoes for Christmas, but the heat brought just such destruction for many from Texas to the southeast.

As Dane points out at Geoengineering Watch,  "Populations in first world countries have been very successfully conditioned to believe that they are immune to the world's problems. Most have convinced themselves that if they ignore dire issues for a long enough duration, the problems will magically go away. This very delusional notion is very close to being completely obliterated. Converging catastrophes are now here, there is no place to hide."

In other words, this is just the tip of the melting iceberg. Some commentary has described this as the new normal. My sense is that we will not see "normal" again in our lifetimes.

Meanwhile, in the the national insanity realm, some bloggers over the past weeks have been writing about Trump and his fascist and racist rants. Some see parallels to Germany in the 1930s, which is not at all unfounded. But the rightwing explosion of reactionary hate-mongering isn't just going on in America. Take a look at what's going on in Germany now.

The conservative mass media has been hyping threats from "terrorists" for so long that they've managed to whip up the low-information set into a foaming frenzy that's turning into violence in a number of places across our country. Mosques burned, and people who appear to be middle-eastern are being attacked, verbally and physically. And, the literal hysteria over possible refugees from Syria - and all the while, xenophobic Republican candidates like Trump get all the media coverage, while candidates like Bernie Sanders are barely mentioned.

So...what's on YOUR mind this X-mess week?? Please add your own rant or shout-out below.

(The disqus comment format has been ditched, apologies to anyone who may have had trouble with it).

Glad you're here. This blog, like the former Mills River Progressive, will focus on current events, primarily in the arenas of politics, economics, and the environment. Yet the focus here will be that which speaks to (and of) the ongoing societal disintegration happening all around us.

Judging from the conversations some of us have been having with each other online, most of us are experiencing that the systems we grew up surrounded by have gone terribly wrong. We feel the chaos, the discord, and the tension, even if unconsciously. And in daily life, it feels like we're surrounded by people who don't have a clue about what's actually going on - and worse, have no interest in finding out. Whatever the MSM is blathering about on any given day is the extent of their information.

That can feel alienating, adding to the undercurrent of tension that's already there. So the point of this space is, in addition to (hopefully) becoming a forum for sharing info and expressing yourself, it will also be a reminder that you have companeros out there. The goal here isn't a huge readership, but an ideal one, for individuals who question everything and don't fit into the mainstream paradigm.

Please follow this blog, so that you'll be emailed whenever a new post comes out. You will not be asked for donations, nor subjected to ads.
